#98: a progressive church

Claire and Lydia’s parents make them wear matching dresses to church, it’s pretty humiliating.

Is that supposed to be a smiley face above the church door?

Uuuuurrrgh… @ lydia’s mom. Now I know what Claire and Lydia would look like if they both ate a healthy diet of babies

  3. Green

Well their religious architecture & concept are certainly intriguing.

    I can’t remember if it’s Lydia’s or Cass’s parents that are hippies.

Also, they may be humiliating in the fact they’re matching, but I like the dresses the twins are wearing.

Cyber: That would appear to be the disk of Aten, whose presence is a bit surprising in the company of any other gods. The Pharaoh Ankhesenaten raised what was hitherto a minor aspect of Ra, the Sun God, to what amounted to a monotheistic religion — long before (for example) the God of the Hebrews had that privilege. The rest of Khemitian society was so scandalized by this that after his death (probably by assassination), nearly all mention of both Ankhesenaten and his god Aten were excised, and the rest of the pantheon returned to its correct prominence.

    …Boo to intolerance.

The sun disc I showed, with the serpent, is more identified with Wadjet, yet another solar deity, this one frequently seen perched on top of Ra’s head.

Not that it really matters, since these guys are to the ancient Khemitian religion what a bunch of people in a Christian megachurch in Texas are to first century Pharisees.

    *bow*

    My apologies for misleading.

Interesting. I got the impression that Khemitian Lucianism was kind of like this but I didn’t quite think it’d be THAT close to being like a modern megachurch.

If that megachurch preacher says the word ‘donate’ I will reach into the comic through my monitor and punch him. Such an accurate portrayal of the people I wish I could smack through the TV screen.

Wow… amazing how well the comic captures the feel of a moment like that. Stoked my enduring hatred of organized religion back up full force very effectively.
