The deadlands a result of climate change or magical fallout from the civil war? (I presume there still was an ilthmiri civil war).

Yeah, it’s an undead plague. See what foul magic can do? Seriously though, i bet it figures in with why the archmagess is in mourning and that it’s weaponry related. I would evidence this on the red circle denoting the origin site. Plagues and other stuff don’t usually have a well known point of origin.
