The “body armor” is really just flak vests, which help protect against flying shrapnel, but wouldn’t do much to protect against a high-powered sniper rifle.

The star on Takako’s insignia means that she’s a Private First Class. Just the stripe means ordinary Privates.

Some other male soldiers can be seen on page #56, and we’ll see some more in the last page of the flashback. The platoon is probably about 50-50.

And btw, how come there is only women in that platoon? One man = the captain, and he has deceased now….

It does look like that the sniper hit private korekiyo right where the arnour is lowered due to movability. But this doesn’t explain the fact that the captain got hit in his frikkin heart. So the sniper got some serious firepower. 45. maybe?

Either that sniper is using some hellacious ammo or those armor vest are of pretty limited utility.

The missile in the background of panel four is a nice touch.
